Someone in your corner.

Business cards, invitations, postcards, booklets and signs, made by people who want to know what you are making and who it is for. Printed right here in Durham, North Carolina.

We care about what your print says about you.

A business card at a meeting, a postcard in a mailbox, an invitation opened at a kitchen table: whoever holds it takes it as a measure of you, and you trusted us to help make it. We take that seriously. It is why we pay attention to every detail, and why business here still feels personal.

A name, not an order number

Your job belongs to one person here, from your first question to the box, and that is who answers when you call. Nothing gets handed off, and nothing has to be explained twice.

Straight answers in plain words

When a detail matters, we explain it, and when there is a choice, we lay out the trade-off. When we do not know, we find out. You should not need to know the printing business to get print you are proud of.

Sometimes the answer is less

A heavier stock, a second finish, a bigger run: if it will not make the piece better, we will tell you. Premium, to us, means considered, not expensive for its own sake.

Rooted in Durham

Howling Press is a Durham company, and we mean to keep it that way. We would rather be known here for the work than everywhere for the volume, and you can pick your job up from the people who made it.

Printed for

How we work with you.

We are not here to take orders. We are here to help you make good ones, and this is how that goes, from the first conversation to the next one.

  1. 01

    Understand

Tell us about the job: who it is for, when you need it and what should happen when they hold it. If you only know the outcome you want, that is plenty to start with.

  2. 02

    Advise

You get the options and one recommendation, with the reason behind it. How it looks, how it wears, how it will be used and your budget all count, and we will say which matter most for yours.

  3. 03

    Prepare

Before anything is set up, we look your file over for the things that go wrong in production: size, bleed, color, folds, finishing. Then you see a proof, and the press waits until you have said yes.

  4. 04

    Produce

Your job runs on a press measured and profiled for the paper you chose, so the proof you approved is the piece you get, first sheet to last. We tell you when it goes on and when it comes off.

  5. 05

    Inspect

Checking is part of making it, not an afterthought. Before the box closes, someone picks up a finished piece the way the person it is meant for will, and goes through the run against your order: color, cut, finish and count.

  6. 06

    Deliver

How it arrives is part of the piece, so it is packed to come out of the box the way it came off the press. Pick it up here, or we ship it and send you the tracking.

  7. 07

    Remember

Next time, you do not start over: we keep your files, and we remember your paper, your colors and how you like things done. Over the years, we get to be less like a vendor and more like part of your team.

Precision in every impression.

A fraction of an inch, the wrong stock, color a shade off, a cut that wanders: any one of them changes how a piece feels in the hand. Precision means more than getting those right. It means you can hold the finished piece and know that somebody cared.

  1. 01No small jobs. The smallest job on the schedule is somebody's whole project. Fifty pieces get the same paper, the same measured color and the same eyes on them as five thousand.
  2. 02Our word is our bond.If we say Thursday, we mean Thursday. If something goes wrong, you hear it from us early, and you hear all of it. If the mistake is ours, we make it right.
  3. 03Right, or it runs again. If a sheet is off, it does not ship. It runs again, and you never see the one that was wrong.

A real company, run by real people you can reach: big enough for the work, never so big that you stop being known. Chris started Howling Press and runs it, Santannah keeps events on schedule, and Loren and Sunshine take a design from an idea to a file that prints the way it should.

Bring the file, or just the idea.

A finished design, an existing brand or nothing on paper yet: any of them is enough to start. We will ask a question or two, come back with a quote, and from there it is ours to get right.
